• Purpose of the exchange

  This session is part of a series of exchanges that the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Energy Community Secretariat initiated in 2020 to spur the discussion of various aspects relevant for the ongoing modelling work on the National Energy and Climate Plans. The exchange aims to facilitate technical discussions of modelling approaches, data availability and quality, challenges, best practices, cross-sectoral and regional aspects that can inform national efforts.
   

• Agenda

  The exchange started with two contributions: 

  • Michael Mehling, Deputy Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who will present theoretical principles and design options for carbon taxes and also speak about the interaction of different carbon pricing instruments in one instrument cluster; and
  • Vicki Duscha, Coordinator of the Climate Policy Unit at Fraunhofer Institute for System- and Innovation Research (ISI), who will summarize design options for an emission trading scheme with a particular focus on related modelling approaches.
