Bosnia Herzegovina

Six municipalities from Bosnia and Herzegovina participate in the Clean Air Regions Initiative (CARI), the highest number of municipalities from any Contracting Party. By joining CARI, these municipalities develop tailored Local Air Quality Action Plans, set ambitious targets, and contribute to the collective effort for cleaner air. Members also benefit from sharing experiences and learning from others through CARI’s events, strengthening their impact and access to valuable resources.

In the context of CARI initiative, the Secretariat supported four municipalities in Bosnia Herzegovina through the procurement of 24 Airly PM sensors for air quality monitoring in 2024. The devices are capable of measuring PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 and support includes a dashboard service for one year to analyse air quality data.

Bosnia and Herzegovina also benefits from procured services to fully transpose REDII provisions on renewable energy in the transport sector. The project will help establish systems for verifying sustainability and GHG emissions savings, draft necessary secondary legislation, and strengthen the capacity of national institutions and stakeholders through expert support and best practice sharing.  

Additionally, the Secretariat conducts studies to support Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy reforms, including the ongoing study on energy efficiency and energy poverty, focusing on improving building energy efficiency to combat energy poverty and strengthen national institutions.
