First donation to Ukraine Energy Support Fund ready for disbursement

25 April 2022

Following the signature of a Fiduciary Agreement between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Secretariat and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has received the first donation from the Government of Denmark. The donation will be used to purchase much needed emergency energy equipment, fuels for electricity production and heating and provide other types of support.

The Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark, Dan Jørgensen, said: “Ukraine's energy sector is badly affected by the war and they have asked for our help. Denmark, in close co-operation with the European Commission and the Energy Community, has set up a system so that EU countries can now donate to Ukraine's energy sector. This is to ensure that Ukraine receives equipment that actually fits into the energy system. Denmark will also send money and encourage other countries to contribute as well.”

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, said: “I sincerely thank the first donor, Denmark, for answering Ukraine’s call for emergency support to the energy sector in these difficult times of war. On a daily basis, my colleagues in war affected regions restore over and over electricity grids and gas supply networks. We are grateful to all our partners who provide us with the necessary equipment so we can bring electricity, heating and water to thousands of Ukrainian families faster.”

The Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, said: “The Secretariat together with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine will work at speed to ensure that all donations disbursed are channelled to address the most urgent needs of the Ukrainian energy sector.”
