The Secretariat welcomes the adoption of North Macedonia’s new Energy Law
Energy Law of North Macedonia, a significant milestone on the country’s path toward full integration into the European energy market.
The new legal framework paves the way to the electricity market integration—most notably, the coupling of North Macedonia’s electricity market into the EU single day-ahead and intraday coupling (SDAC/SIDC). This crucial step will enhance regional cooperation, improve market efficiency, and strengthen energy security, in line with the Energy Community acquis.
"The adoption of this law demonstrates North Macedonia’s strong commitment to European energy integration,” said Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat. “We look forward to the next steps—beginning with full compliance and advancing toward an accelerated integration into the EU single electricity market and improved system security. “
Market coupling remains subject to the verified compliance of the legal provisions with the Energy Community Treaty. The Secretariat will work closely with North Macedonia to support this process and ensure swift and effective alignment.
