Energy Community Convenes Gas Traders
On 10 June 2025, the Energy Community Secretariat convened shippers from across the European gas market for a focused event in Vienna, addressing current market dynamics, regional integration, and Ukraine’s evolving role in the energy landscape.
The event opened with remarks from Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, who highlighted the importance of Ukraine’s storage facilities for broader EU energy security. As the EU moved away from Russian-origin fuels and gas flow patterns continued to shift, the Ukrainian system played an important role in connecting regional markets and providing a stable safety net. Ukraine’s gas market reforms, naturally, needed to support this ambition.
Senior representatives from Ukrtransgaz (UTG) and the Gas TSO of Ukraine shared updates on storage capacity, transmission infrastructure, and how the country positioned itself as a reliable partner for European gas traders. The Energy Community Secretariat also presented insights into Ukraine’s reform progress and measures to improve cross-border market attractiveness. Participants from institutions such as EFET, ARGUS, GAS-SYSTEM, and ACER contributed to an engaging and forward-looking exchange, underlining shared ambitions for a more connected, secure, and efficient gas market.
