18 gas-piston power stations delivered to JSC "Ukrainian Railways" under the Ukraine Energy Support Fund

22 July 2025

18 gas-piston power stations have been procured and delivered to JSC "Ukrainian Railways" under the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (the Fund), with a total value of EUR 21.6 million.

The procurement and delivery of these units were made possible thanks to the generous contribution of the United Kingdom, through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, to the Fund and were administrated by the Energy Community Secretariat.

The importance of uninterrupted energy supply in wartime conditions, particularly for national transport infrastructure, cannot be overstated. Gas-piston power stations offer a practical, flexible and efficient solution to address the challenges posed by ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. These units will provide JSC "Ukrainian Railways" with 41.4 MW of flexible generation capacity, significantly strengthening the resilience and reliability of energy supply for the stable operation of critical infrastructure.

“The delivery of this equipment marks another important step in strengthening Ukraine’s energy system resilience through the decentralised generation, provided under the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. It plays a vital role in mitigating risks from the targeted attacks and in building more flexible energy system,” - added Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.

Through targeted support for critical energy assets and decentralisation of Ukraine's energy system, Energy Community Secretariat and donors of the Fund in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine are playing a vital role in improving safety and quality of life for millions across the country.

The Energy Community Secretariat and the Fund's donors stay firmly in their solidarity with Ukraine. As joint work under the Fund continues, delivering rapid response and impactful modernisation, the key results under the Fund achieved since 2022 are as follows:

  • more than 790 supply contracts financed;
  • EUR 669 million contracted;
  • a total of 58 Ukrainian energy companies have signed contracts for supply of energy equipment, services, and passive protection measures, while support requests have been approved for 71 energy companies overall;
  • projects implemented across 21 regions of Ukraine.

As winter season 2025/2026 approaches, and the current gap between received support requests and available fundings is calculated at over EUR 550 million, the Energy Community Secretariat urges all donors to increase their contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in supporting winterisation efforts, implemented in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and Ukrainian energy companies. Energy Community Secretariat is thankful to each donor for their trust, solidarity, and fruitful cooperation, bringing tangible results.
