Nov 2021With the Decision 2021/14/MC-EnC, the Ministerial Council adopts and adapts the Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.
Dec 2022With the Decision 2022/02/MC-EnC, the Ministerial Council amends the Directive (EU) 2018/2001 to add in ANNEX I targets for shares of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy in 2030.
Dec 2022Directive (EU) 2018/2001 transposition and implementation deadline.

Tasks
- The competent authorities from Contracting Parties transpose the Directive into national law.
- Secretariat assists Contracting Parties in transposing the directive into national legislation.
- The Energy Community Renewable Energy Coordination Group (RECG) facilitates effective implementation, supporting exchanging best practices, information, and harmonizing approaches across Contracting Parties.

Legal basis and purpose
By signing the Energy Community Treaty, Contracting Parties committed to aligning their national legislation with the Directive (EU) 2018/2001 of 11 December 2018 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.
The purpose of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 is to accelerate the EU’s shift to a low-carbon, sustainable energy system by promoting the use of renewable sources across electricity, heating, cooling, and transport. It sets binding targets to boost clean energy, supporting climate goals and energy security.
